This procedure targets the master organ of our body which is the brain. In Ayurveda, the body is imagined as the inverted tree, and its roots lie in the head. So when you give the head nourishment whole body benefits. Shiobasti is performed as treatment of diseases which involve 1.brain function impairment, 2.paralysis, facial palsy, 3.neurological disorders, 4.hormonal disorders, 5.hair related problems, baldness, 6.eye problems 7. Psychological disorders and many more. At first, an ayurvedic doctor will examine the patient following ayurvedic methods. Then the doctor will make a diagnosis from an Ayurvedic perspective. After that, the doctor may advise some regime to be followed by a patient for a few days. Then the patient will be advised to undergo this treatment. The doctor selects ayurvedic oil as per the patient’s condition and disease. Generally, oils processed with brain-enriching herbs like Brahmi, Shankhapushpi, Vacha, Amla, Jatamnsi, Bala will be selected. The Shirovasti procedure involves making a pool of oil on your head within the walls of a leather cap. The patient is prepared by shaving the head. Then the cap is fitted firmly on top of the head and sealed so the oil will not leak through. Then medicated warm oil is poured on patient’s head and kept there for a specified time as per patient’s prakruti and nature of the ailment. The oil is kept warm throughout the procedure replacing the cold oil with a hot one. After the completion of treatment, the oil is removed from the cap followed cap removal. Light head massage is performed afterward. For elimination of concentrated dosha (mainly kapha) at the site, Rasnadi churna is rubbed on bregma. It reduces the heavy feeling after the treatment. The patient is advised to take rest. Head bath is to be avoided for two hours. :
